A 24 hour Garda operation is underway

 

A 24 hour Garda operation is underway in the southern region – targetting dangerous drivers.

Operation Focus will run in counties Cork, Kerry and Limerick until six o'clock tomorrow morning.

While road fatalities are down nationally, there was a 50 per cent increase in road deaths in Co. Cork last year – up from 18 in 2010 to 27 last year.

The southern region has also registered the highest number nationally for deaths of pedestrians.

And the worst time for crashes in counties Cork, Kerry and Limerick is Thursday and Friday afternoons between 3 and 6pm.
