The case at Clonmel Circuit Court is the culmination of an international police investigation into child pornography which has involved investigations in Australia, New Zealand and continental Europe.
The accused in this case was arrested after gardaí and the HSE raided a house in County Tipperary last year after “chat records” between one suspect and a person named as “The Master” led the investigation to that address.
Clonmel Circuit Court heard yesterday that the accused admitted recording his brother raping and sexually assaulting his brother's own son.
His brother has already received a 20-year prison sentence for rape at the Central Criminal Court.
The accused in this case was not involved in perpetrating the abuse on his nephew, but in recording it. The images and videos have since been circulated on the internet and the court heard from a social worker who has carried out a victim impact study on the boy that they will be available into the future for anyone who would wish to see them, effectively further abuse on the victim and his privacy.
Gardaí seized computer equipment from the accused's brother's home and business address and found over 12,000 images and 68 videos of child pornography, the court heard.
The young victim in this case has a profound disability which requires 24-hour care.
Judge Thomas Teehan is due to deliver sentence later today.
