Hurricane force winds battering parts of Florida

Hurricane force winds are battering parts of Florida, as officials warn those who haven’t fled Irma, should stay inside and “hunker down.”

The hurricane has left at least 27 people dead across the Caribbean.

It’s now around 40 miles south-east of Key West – as parts of Florida are already being lashed by strong winds and heavy rain.

Millions of people there have fled after authorities ordered evacuations.

Kevin Smith from the Salvation Army says the scale is unprecedented.
