Tipperary based consultant to attempt North Pole trek

Valentine's Day 2014 will have a very special significance for one Irish duo.

That's the day Doctor Clare O'Leary, a consultant at South Tipp General Hospital, and Mike O'Shea are planning to embark on their second attempt to reach the North Pole – on foot.

Doctor O'Leary was the first Irishwoman to conquer Mount Everest and was also the first to walk to the South Pole.

Preparation for their attempt to become the first Irish people to reach the pole will reach the next level in the next couple of weeks when they spend 24 hours in a freezer.

They're updating their website, theiceproject.org with the latest information on the expedition.
