A second MRI scanner has been announced for University Hospital Limerick.

It is due to be in place before Christmas and was announced by the HSE yesterday evening.

The news has been welcomed by Deputy Alan Kelly who told Tipp FM News it should help to alleviate the overcrowding problems.

He said the only MRI scanner in the hospital is old, flawed and is not suited for the amount of patients in the hospital.
