Plans for a new crossing of the river Shannon below Ballina have hit a major stumbling block.
Environmental campaigner Peter Sweetman is to seek leave from the High Court for a judicial review of the An Bord Pleanala decision to grant permission for the project.
The plans include a €12 million Shannon Bridge Crossing, upgrade works on the Ballina Birdhill road costing 16.6 million and a €12 million Killaloe bypass.
Peter Sweetman says there is a need to protect alluvial wet woodland on the Clare side of the Shannon near Killaloe.
