Elective surgery cancelled at Mid Western Regional

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is calling on the HSE and the Health Minister to put a plan in place immediately to deal with severe overcrowding in the emergency department at the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick.

Overcrowding has led the HSE to cancel a number of elective operations and surgical and medical day procedures there which is likely to impact on patients in Tipperary.

At one point yesterday, there were 36 people lying on trolleys, awaiting admission.
