Works to proceed at South Tipperary GAA club

Tipperary County Council granted permission last May to Fethard GAA club to expand their facilities in the medieval town.

Conditional approval was given for a new two-storey clubhouse facility comprising of 2 changing rooms with showers & toilet facilities and a medical room.

In a separate planning application the club had also been granted permission for an all weather playing pitch and surrounding fence as well as for six 10 metre high floodlights.

However concerns about both developments were lodged to An Bord Pleanala – among them the negative impact on architectural heritage, light impact on nearby houses, the potential for attracting anti-social behaviour and traffic disturbance.

Following an inspection of the site and planning files by an inspector from An Bord Pleanala the state planning appeals board has decided to allow the works to proceed with some revised conditions – these include time restrictions on the use of the floodlights.
