The Rail Accident Investigation Unit has launched an investigation after a train struck a car on a level crossing in Co. Tipperary last night.
The incident, involving the 6.20 service from Ballybrophy to Limerick, happened at around 8 o'clock yesterday evening at Kelly's Crossing in Birdhill.
A woman in her 60's – who was sitting inside the vehicle – was taken to hospital following the collision – but it's believed she's being treated for shock and her injuries are not serious.
The 8 passengers onboard the train were also uninjured – and were taken to their destination via bus.
A spokesperson for Irish Rail says an investigation into the incident has been launched and all train services on the route will resume as normal this morning.
