West Tipperary man bound to the peace for assault

James White has been bound to the peace for a year after assaulting two brothers following his sister’s funeral.

The 33 year old decorated British army war hero from Cappawhite, pleaded guilty last year to two counts of assault causing harm.

The court heard previously that the assault arose out of a photograph taken at the funeral of Mr White’s sister, Cathriona White – who was a former girlfriend of actor Jim Carrey.

Judge Elizabeth MacGrath asked in December for the case to be examined for its suitability under the restorative justice project but noted from a report handed into court yesterday that it was found not to be suitable.

Judge MacGrath ordered James White to pay €426 in relation to a damaged door and bound Mr. White to the peace for 12 months, on his own bond of €500.

Cathriona White died in Los Angeles in October of 2015 – her funeral took place in her home town of Cappawhite.

Carrey, with who she had previously been in a relationship, was among the mourners at the funeral which was attended by a large media gathering.
