The accolade was presented to Dr Haass at a special ceremony in Ballykisteen in West Tipperary where he is surrounded by family, friends and figures from across the political divide both North and South.
Among those attending the ceremony were former recipient of the Tipperary International Award Dr Martin Mansergh, Fr Brian Darcy and Tipperary's two Ministers of State Alan Kelly and Tom Hayes
Speaking to Tipp Fm Dr Haass said that while many people thought the troubles ended with the Good Friday Agreements it’s the finer details that will make the process complete.
Richard Haass' family travelled to Ireland with him for today's ceremony and have spent time visiting tourist spots across Ireland including The Burren in Clare .
However he's looking forward to visiting many of Tipperary's attractions in the coming days stating that's great to get out of Dublin and Belfast and see the rest of Ireland and gives him a chance to relax describing it as a real treat for both him and his family.
