Talking or texting while behind the wheel increases the risk of crashing four fold and can have fatal consequences.
To date over 10 thousand motorists have been caught for the offence and from May 1st – those who flout the law will face much tougher penalties including a possible €1000 fine.
Sergeant Eddie Brennan of Thurles Garda Station says the two day campaign is about trying to change people's mindsets.
