Tipperary is set to receive almost half a million Euro to improve the lives of those with disabilities in the county.

The Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Eoghan Murphy, has announced the funding under the Disabled Persons Grant Scheme.

A total of €12 million worth of funding is to be distributed between local authorities across the country.

Tipperary County Council has been allocated €411,695 by the Minister, with an additional €45,744 coming from the local authority, meaning the council will be working with a budget of €457,439.

It will see improved housing conditions of those living with disabilities, as well as towards addressing issues with overcrowding in existing social housing stock.

The funding will go towards such works as grab rails, disabled access ramps, wet rooms and extensions in cases of overcrowding.

Meanwhile, Improvement Works in Lieu will provide an alternative to social housing for approved social housing applicants living in private accommodation.
