There are calls for Tipperary County Council to be allowed build houses to tackle the housing crisis.

Councillor Pat English tabled a motion to this months meeting of the council asking the government to develop a local authority led emergency response to the social housing crisis in the country.

The Workers and Unemployed Action Group member said councils across Ireland had proven in the past that they were up to the job.

Pat English wants Tipperary County Council to be properly funded to tackle the housing issue.
