Tipp taxation expert on Tax Defaulters list

Up to 20 Tipperary residents including several members of the travelling community have either settled cases with Revenue or were fined by the courts for avoiding some form of tax or duty.

The largest Tipperary settlement published in today's List of Tax Defaulters was made by prominent taxation Lecturer Mel Francis Kilkenny with an address at 32 The Brook, Ballina.

A Revenue Audit found he had under declared over €167 thousand in income tax and when interest and penalties were added – the final bill came to nearly €285 thousand.

In a separate case – Richard Quirke a bread delivery agent and farmer from Ayle, Oola, Tipperary was found to have under declared Capital Gains tax and Vat to the tune of €82 thousand euro plus- in a subsequent court ruling he was ordered to pay almost 24 thousand.

In the second separate list also published by Revenue today – which focuses mainly on a loss of taxes and duties to the state on products – up to 18 Tipperary residents feature here.

12 people were fined in the courts for the misuse of marked mineral oil – including several members of the traveller community with addresses at halting sites in Clonmel and Cashel.

The list also contains three Fethard pubs convicted of illegal betting, a Clonmel man fined over the illegal selling of cigarettes and a Nenagh shop fitter who failed to lodge income tax and Vat returns.
