The IPU has welcomed as a step in the right direction, a Uturn from the Social Protection Department on directing welfare receipients to bank transfers instead of Post Offices.

It followed criticism from postal staff and local representatives who described the move as a direct attack on the viability of post offices, particularly in rural areas.
