Tipp Council looking to develop Nenagh land

Tipperary County Council has bought 70 acres of land around First Data in Nenagh to allow for further business expansion, the development of housing and the possible influx of new multi-national and homegrown industries.

This deal comes after year long negotiations with Nama over the sites on the Stereame Business Park on the outskirts of Nenagh.

It comes on the back of First Data's decision to establish an R&D centre in the area which will result in the creation of 300 new jobs – earlier this month the US firm secured planning permission for the development with the site due to be up and running by next year.

In buying the adjacent land around First Data it’s hoped a cluster of other business will now flock to the area

Local Labour TD Alan Kelly who was instrumental in the deal is confident of success.

40 acres of the land has been earmarked for housing which will ensure that First Data staff and any other firm that set up shop in the area will be living and working locally contributing to the immediate economy.

Local Sinn Fein Councillor Seamus Morris has paid tribute to the council management and all those involved in this deal.

Last week it emerged the nearby Nenagh Retail Park was also sold with plans for investment there and Deputy Kelly says all of this work will seriously enhance that part of the North Tipperary Town.
