Thousands due to flock to Croagh Patrick

Traditionally, some of those making the trip will attempt to climb barefoot, however safety teams are still advising everyone to come prepared for changeable weather, with suitable warm clothes, good footwear, a walking stick or staff and water.

Last year, the hike ran into controversy, when some pilgrims insisted on climbing the mountain despite severe weather warnings.

The weather this weekend is set to be more clement, but rescue officials are still advising all to be ready for changeable conditions.
