Theory suggests Catholic heritage is behind Irelands low breastfeeding rate

The strong Catholic heritage in Irish culture could be behind our low breastfeeding rates.

It's a theory put forward in the BMJ Global Health journal, in research showing breastfeeding is more popular in developed countries with higher Protestant populations

Barely half of all women in this country have tried breastfeeding, and the study shows figures dip even in geographical areas where there are more Catholics.

However Columnist Victoria White doesn't think it's that simple.
