Further strike action could be on the cards at secondary schools – if unions reject the latest compromise plan for reforming the junior cycle.
The executive councils of the ASTI and TUI will meet today, to decide whether to accept the proposals drawn up by Dr.Pauric Travers – which would see the new junior cycle would be split in two.
It proposes one part is marked by the State Examinations Commission and the other by teachers.
Talks between the Department of Education and unions have be ongoing for months and there have been two strike days so far.
Education Correspondent with the Irish Times, Joe Humphreys, says if unions reject this plan it will likely mean more strikes.
