Support for those affected by suicide

The first Living Links bereavement group was established in Cloughjordan in 2002 in direct response to a suicide in the community.

Their aim is to provide support and outreach to those bereaved by suicide.

Sr Patricia says many are left with unanswered questions when a loved one takes their own life.

To mark World Suicide Prevention Day iconic landmarks around Ireland will light up orange 

Trinity College Dublin, Christ Church Cathedral, Heuston Station, Blarney Castle, NUI Galway and Belfast City Hall are just some of the buildings taking part in The Cycle Against Suicide Movement.

Thousands of homes and communities will also take part in the light up event, at 9 o'clock tonight.

Michael Egan of Living Links says the current reporting system for suicide is not adequate.

He says this is making dealing with the problem more difficult.

Sandra has been diagnosed as bi-polar – speaking on Tipp Today she said she had attempted to take her own life.

Following this she was treated at St Patrick's in Dublin – Sandra told Fran Curry that learning about your illness is vital.
