Better education is the key to combating serious head injuries in sport according to Tipp football coach Shane Stapleton.

In February, he was seriously concussed following a seemingly innocuous collision with Clare’s Jamie Malone at Cusack Park in Ennis.

He got back to his feet immediately after the incident, but moments later he had fallen back to the ground suffering seizures.

The Golden Kilfeacle man was taken from the field to be treated, where he suffered another seizure and was taken to hospital.

Shane was monitored for almost a week in hospital, and was unable to work for more than a month.

He has now fully recovered and speaking on Tipp Today this morning he said education is the key to ensuring more people aren’t seriously injured.
