South Tipperary County Council rows back on Education Grant decision.

South Tipperary County Council has reversed the decision to withhold Higher Education Grants from families which have not paid the Household Charge.

The assessment and processing of these grants is carried out by South Tipperary County Council on an agency basis for the Department of Education with the local authority carrying the cost of administering the scheme.

The controversial €100 Household Charge was introduced to provide funding for local services such as this.

The Council had intended to request evidence of payment of the household charge before processing Higher Education Grants – however they have now rowed back on this.
