Sentencing for rape resumes today

The sentencing hearing in the case of a man who raped a woman with Down syndrome will resume at the Central Criminal Court today.

34-year-old Faisal Ellahi, who's from Pakistan but was living in Dublin at the time, pleaded not guilty to rape, sexual assault and having sex with a mentally impaired person at his Dublin home on the 13th of June 2013.

Following a five week trial in December, he was convicted by a jury of raping the woman after luring her back to his house and faces up to life in prison.

Last week, the court heard a victim impact statement from the victim's mother.

The hearing resumes this morning.
