Reports Kelly’s considering his political future

The Portroe native's leadership ambitions were cut short yesterday after he failed to secure the backing of any of his Labour parliamentary colleagues in his bid to succeed Joan Burton.

Brendan Howlin was subsequently unveiled as Labour leader at a press conference but Deputy Kelly was a no-show- 

He later tweeted an image of seven pints of Guinness lined up, from full to half empty with the message “The seven stages of leadership”.

In today Irish Independent sources close to Mr Kelly said that he is considering his political future but doesn’t intend to quit the party in the short term.

Meanwhile the Chairman of the Labour Party Willie Penrose has praised Brendan Howlin 

Deputy Penrose believes he will revive the party
