From now on, any driver caught breaking the light at the junction of Blackhall Place and Benburb street Luas tracks will automatically get 3 penalty points and a fine of up to €120.
Since the start of the year, there have been 12 incidents between trams and drivers.
The Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe says it could be rolled out elsewhere in the future.
