Pressure on Enda Kenny to clarify leadership position

TDs are warning he'll face a motion of no confidence at the parliamentary party and a heave next week if he doesn't indicate when he'll step down.

The events of the past week have focussed the minds of Fine Gael TDs – an election could happen at any time and they need a new leader.

Many TDs have already moved on from Enda Kenny and there was open courting going on around Leinster House this morning.

Enda Kenny though is being given at least a few days to decide what he'll do.

His party colleagues hope that over the weekend he'll work out a plan and announce it before Tuesday on how he'll step down.

If that hasn't happened a motion of no confidence in his leadership will be tabled for next week's Parliamentary Party meeting.

For now the Taoiseach's getting on with the job – chairing a cabinet meeting this morning, attending a tax conference, outlining revised budgets for his department before a committee and launching the taskforce report for the North Inner city in Dublin this evening.
