There are stark contrasts between the two main hospitals serving Tipperary today.

Overcrowding is a major problem at University Hospital Limerick while things are relatively quiet at South Tipp General.

UHL – which serves North Tipperary, Clare and Limerick – is the busiest in the country today.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation reports 46 patients without a bed at the Dooradoyle hospital.

Meanwhile at South Tipp General in Clonmel there are just 8 people being cared for in overflow areas of wards today.

Nationally the nursing union reports 386 patients without a bed this afternoon.
