O’Byrne defends Council

Bernard O'Byrne, who's now the chief executive of Basketball Ireland, says there is a distinction between the actions of individuals within the organisation and the group itself.

He's also welcomed an investigation into the controversy which he claims will allow the OCI to clear its name.

It was announced early this morning that Ireland's Olympic Council will hire an international accountant to perform an independent audit, after the scandal which has embroiled its President Pat Hickey, as well as its Vice President – and current FAI boss – Tipperary's John Delaney.

Former football executive Bernard O'Byrne says the men don't represent the entire Council.
