No pay rise for Ministers

It's been confirmed that ministers will not take a pay rise under the Budget.

They'll turn down pay increases worth up to five thousand euro a year for the Taoiseach.

It's a reversal of pay cuts which were imposed on politicians, as well as all public servants, under a series of national pay deals.

Meanwhile, Fianna Fáil has hit out at the Budget's plan to help first-time buyers – describing it as a “help to sell scheme”.

The party has used Dáil time today to complain that the Budget won't do enough to stimulate more supply in the housing market.

It's calling on the government to publish an impact assessment of the measures which will see first-time buyers given tax refunds of up to 20,000.
