No decision on Capital Grant funding

Minister Shane Ross has failed to confirm whether or not this vital revenue source will be forthcoming this year.

The Sports Capital Grants are extremely important for groups and communities across the Premier County with many depending on the funding to buy new equipment and upgrade and improve facilities.

However no decision has been made by Sports Minister Shane Ross on when the next round of funding will be made.

Local Fianna Fail TD Jackie Cahill says many of those depending on the Sports Capital Grants are now worried that there will be no funding this year.

The vast majority of the projects undertaken by sports clubs and associations in Tipperary under the Capital Grants scheme are carried out by volunteers.

As a result the funding goes considerably further as most of it is spent on equipment and material.

However Deputy Jackie Cahill says Sports Minister Shane Ross needs to recognise the efforts of the clubs by rolling out grants as a matter of urgency.
