New Surgical Unit to open at Nenagh Hospita

The 6.2 million euro development is the latest in a series of upgraded facilities to be completed at the Tyone health facility.

Following the closure of the 24 hour accident and emergency department at Nenagh General in 2012, efforts began to ensure the future viability of the hospital.

The Government included it in its Capital Works Programme and over the last few months, endoscopy, diagnostic and surgical procedures have become available, while a range of consultancy specialists are also up and running at it's outpatient clinic centre.

This afternoon, the new Surgical Day unit will be officially opened by Environment Minister and Tipperary TD Alan Kelly.

Several HSE personnel will also be in attendance including the Director General Tony O'Brien along with local public representatives.

The Surgical Day Unit at the Tyone facility is already open and providing care to patients.

Proceedings get underway at 2 o'clock this afternoon.
