New Garda members pass out today

A passing out ceremony for 99 of the probationary officers is taking place at the Mid Tipp Garda College later this morning.

This is the 4th batch of new recruits to complete the first phase of their garda training since Templemore fully reopened its doors two years ago..

The outgoing Justice Minister Francis Fitzgerald along with the Garda Commissioner Nóirín O'Sullivan will be present for today's proceedings which will begin with a guard of honour just after 11

Then shortly before twelve following their attestation – the names of all the new garda recruits will be called out individually as part of the passing out parade –

The Commissioners Prize Medal- for the highest academic achievement and the Garry Sheehan Memorial Medal – for the best all round student will also be presented by Commissioner O'Sullivan.

While there has been a broad welcome to the government's commitment to Templemore- there's also criticism locally over the low level of graduating garda that actually end up based at a Tipperary garda station.
