A new forum to examine freedom of debate and possible sanctions for breaches of Dail privilege has been announced by the Ceann Comhairle.
Deputy Sean O’Fearghaíl says the new expert forum – consisting of four respected professionals – will offer him advice and recommendations to be brought to the Committee on Procedure of Dáil Éireann.
Its aim is to provide balance between the freedom of debate during Parliamentary proceedings, and the right of private individuals to their good name.
The group will meet for the first time next week.
