Nearly a third of tenants live in fear of losing their home.

According to Co-operative Housing Ireland, people living in rented accommodation are facing an uncertain future amid rising rental costs and declining property stocks.

Rent now accounts for around 40 per cent of most people's incomes, while 70 per cent of those in the capital expect payments to go up in the next 18 months.

Co-operative Housing Ireland's CEO Kieron Brennan, says the coalition's new rent controls are useful, but don't go far enough.
