N24 in Carrick on Suir reopens to traffic

The N24 has also now reopened to traffic on the Clonmel side of the town at Treacy Park with one lane in operation.

Dozens of people were evacuated from their homes in the South Tipperary town over the past 24 hours including residents at Markievicz Terrace last night as the Treacy Park area of the town became flooded with Storm Frank

It was feared that with high tide last night and again this morning the flood barriers would be breached but they held.

The Civil Defence and the Defence Forces have been stood down but the army remains on standby

Residents who were evacuated from their homes as a precaution are being asked to return home, however a number of homes that were flooded are currently being assessed by the local authority.

The clean up and pumping off other flooded parts of the town is continuing
