Minister Kelly defends Labour’s performance in Government.

Minister Kelly is heading into his first conference as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party.

It's been a turbulent time for the party and the coalition since coming into power with Alan Kelly himself very much involved as the Minister in charge of the implementation of water charges.

Members will discuss a number of motions over the three day conference in Killarney including one from a group of TDs on the Aer Lingus takeover bid.

Despite poor showings in recent opinion polls, Minister Kelly believes the changes Labour have helped bring about will stand to them.

The Portroe native feels while mistakes have been made the decisions taken by the coalition was the right one.

He says the current situation in Greece shows that the approach called for by Sinn Fein, the Anti-Austerity Alliance and others do not work.
