Last push for votes for Tipperary election hopefuls

Among the issues raised is a call for an end to the Free Postage Scheme for outgoing TD's and Senators and a video aimed at helping first time voters to understand the procedure.

For many people in Tipperary Election 2016 may be their first time voting.

Sinn Fein's Seamie Morris has released a video to help them understand the procedure saying that while the counting of votes is complicated, casting your vote is not.

The Nenagh based postman is reminding people to bring some for of ID with them such as a passport, driving licence or a student card.

Fianna Fail candidate Siobhán Ambrose has again highlighted what she describes as the crisis in our health system.

With the numbers on trolleys at South Tipperary General Hospital reaching over 20 at times this week she says the only solution to the problem is extra staff and step down care.

Councillor Ambrose suggests that the former St Lukes Hospital in Clonmel could be used for step-down beds to alleviate the trolley crisis. She has also called for Our Lady's in Cashel to be used to its full potential.

Independent candidate Mattie McGrath is calling for an end to the “Litir Um Thoghchan” or Free Postage Scheme for outgoing TD's and Senators.

He is firmly of the view that they should have sufficient opportunities to communicate with the electorate without this extra service being provided.

Mattie McGrath is hoping to have this scheme wound down by the next election as sending in multiples of the same document or election material to households is not something people want.

Meanwhile, polling begins in the general election today – on 12 islands off the west and northern coast.

They’ll begin voting in the last hours of the campaign, before a broadcast moratorium  kicks in at 2 o’clock.

The campaigns are winding down – but Sinn Féín’ s Gerry Adams will be making a final appeal to young voters, while Fine Gael’s Enda Kenny hits the road for Athlone and Castlebar, and Fianna Fáil’s Micheal Martin visits marginal constituencies.

The Anti-Austerity Alliance-People Before Profit are also out on the last day before most of us go to the polls.
