The Transport Minister's briefing Labour TDs and Senators in a bid to deal with heir opposition over the possible sale of Aer Lingus.

Several members of the Parliamentary Labour Party – including Tánaiste Joan Burton – have said they are not convinced by the offer from International Airlines Group for the former national flag carrier.

Many Deputies are worried about the potential for job losses in their constituencies near Dublin, Cork and Shannon Airports.

Junior Minister Kathleen Lynch says the concerns are widespread within the party.

The Minister says the Government cannot control it once it is out of their hands – however she is not certain that the 25% share gives them as much control as they would like.

Minister Lynch is also aware that Labour backbenchers and a number of Ministers are very much opposed to the sale of Aer Lingus.
