John Delaney latest to be linked to Olympic ticket scandal

The Tipp man – who is vice-President of the Olympic Council of Ireland – is one of six people named on a warrant.

Meanwhile the OCI has put together a 'crisis management' team to investigate the Rio ticket scandal.

The decision follows an emergency meeting of its executive committee in Dublin overnight.

Members of the Olympic Council of Ireland's executive committee met at half nine last night in the offices of Arthur Cox solicitors in Dublin to discuss the Rio ticket scandal.

They didn't walk back outside until 2:30am – by which time they had decided to tackle the matter.

Their first priority will be to put together a 'crisis management' team.

On it will be Sarah Keane of Swim Ireland, Prof Ciaran O'Cathain of Athletics Ireland and Robert Norwood from the Snowsports Association.

Then the Olympic Council says it will hire an international accountancy firm to conduct an independent review of ticketing arrangements.

And its report will be given to the judge chairing the State inquiry into the controversy.

On the other side of the world a criminal investigation is underway with the latest development involving the chief executive of the FAI John Delaney.

The Tipperary man, who also serves as the Vice-President of the OCI, is among 6 people named on a warrant calling for the surrender of their passports.

Three of those executives have already handed over their passports and had their phones and laptops seized.

They will submit themselves to police stations tomorrow for questioning.

Meanwhile the president of the OCI Pat Hickey is due to appear before a judge tomorrow.

He could be facing up to seven years in jail if found guilty of ticket touting.
