The EU Commission is to investigate how support can be given to sustain airports in rural Ireland.
During the European Parliament plenary session, Ireland South MEP Deirdre Clune spoke to the EU Transport Commissioner to reinforce the importance of regional airports.
Ms Clune says these airports are essential for attracting investment.
She pointed out that it’s very difficult for the IDA to attract new business into a region if it doesn’t have an airport.
