Irish fast food chain pushes to have trademark recognised across EU

Supermacs want to have its company name trademark registered across the EU.

The company, which opened its 7th restaurant in Tipperary last month in Tipp town, says it is responding to demands from 15 cities internationally to open more outlets.

McDonald's objection is based on the contention that the name Supermacs is similar to the name McDonald's, which may cause confusion for consumers if the Irish chain opens restaurants in other European counties.
