Irish 15 year olds have second highest reading skills in the EU

Ireland's 15 year olds rank in second place in the EU for their reading skills.

And they're in third place in the OECD, according to new figures.

The OECD's PISA study, carried out every three years, also shows a slight improvement on students' maths performance, and although science scores have dropped slightly, Irish kids are still above average.

The study also found that Irish students use ICT in school and for homework 'significantly less' than their counterparts.
