It's understood the 10 year old – who is Canadian – became ill on an Air Canada flight from Toronto to London yesterday evening.
The plane was diverted to Shannon because of the emergency – the girl was taken to University Hospital Limerick where was pronounced dead.
A post-mortem is due to be carried out.
