The Cabinet yesterday signed off on the legislation – which should be brought to the Oireachtas by the summer.
GPs still have grave concerns over the proposals – they say it will lead to a flood of appointments – and an “unworkable” load on doctors.
However, Dr Ray Walley of the IMO's GP Committee says they've been invited to discuss setting up a framework to establish negotiations.
