Howlin gaining momentum in Labour leadership battle

The Deputy Leader is one of three thought to be interested in the position currently held by Joan Burton.

She is expected to wait until a new Government is formed before making a decision on her leadership.

The party met yesterday for its first analysis having lost 26 seats in the election and now has seven TDs.

The momentum has been building towards Brendan Howlin while Sean Sherlock is also in the running.

Speaking on Tipp Today Network News political correspondent Paraic Gallagher said Tipperary's Alan Kelly may not be a popular candidate within the party.
