The latest figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund show that there's been an increase of 27,000 – since last May – to 535,000.
439,000 are outpatients, with more than 80,000 waiting for over a year.
The HSE says 34 per cent of inpatients are waiting less than 3 months, while 88 per cent of all adult patients are treated within the national target of 15 months.
