HIQA report critical of Cork City hospital

It follows a HIQA inspection, which found the ICU infrastructure and design was dated and didn't meet the desirable standards of a modern day critical care facility – or facilitate effective infection prevention and control.

It was found not to have appropriate isolation facilities for patients with transmissible infection.

HIQA inspectors say there have been improvements in cleanliness and hygiene in wards since an inspection in October 2014.

However, there were still some issues regarding equipment cleaning and dust was present on a number of surfaces.
