Good Friday opening vital for Tipperary vintners.

Tipperary publicans say that the issue of opening on Good Friday is of huge importance to the hospitality and tourist trade.

A delegation from the Vintners’' Federation met with Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald yesterday to push for a change in the law that forbids the selling of alcohol on Good Friday – this year, the day coincides with a rugby match in Dublin which thousands of fans from the UK are expected to attend.

The meeting has been described as 'positive' with the Minister pledging to look into it and come back to the group in the coming weeks.

President of the VFI, Nenagh publican Noreen O'Sullivan says that tourists are baffled when they find all pubs closed on Good Friday.

She says they are left with no place to get food or drink – she says opening is vital for the hospitality industry.
