The crash happened at Annagh Cross off the Portumna to Birr road at around 10.30 yesterday morning.
The child and a woman in her 30's were taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore – the girl was later transferred to Galway University Hospital.
The road was closed for a number of hours as a crane had to be used to remove the truck.
Meanwhile the man who was killed in a single vehicle crash near Clonmel in the early hours of yesterday morning has been named as Daniel Conroy from Auburn Square in the town.
The 28 year old was a front seat passenger in the car which hit a ditch at Rathronan on the Clonmel – Fethard road shortly after 1 o'clock yesterday morning.
